104F here yesterday (that's 40C), which set a new record. Today we've cooled down to all of 98. :P New smoke in the air from new fires thanks to yesterday's thunderstorms. Oh joy. Starting tomorrow, we're supposed to be back up in the 100's again through next Monday. Blech! Hubby's going to Sacramento Saturday, will probably be hotter there, but I am staying home and will camp out in front of the computer. Or maybe I'll take the laptop to a coffee house or book store with air conditioning.

The worst part about the heat is that it saps all my ambition. Second worst thing is that all the cats are shedding up a storm. Simply petting them raises a cloud of cat fur. Poor babies.

Yes, I'm whining. :P I don't do well in the heat. I might gripe about the cold in winter, but I can always put on more clothes. Kinda hard to do the reverse in the summer. ;)

My sympathies to everyone who's suffering from the heat wave, especially in humid places. I don't know how you do it.

But on the bright side of things, I got my Pirates Monopoly game yesterday. :D I had to order it from Barnes&Noble.com because NO ONE here was selling it. (Yes, I'm a geek. :P) And when [livejournal.com profile] loyaldreamer got back from Seattle, she brought me Will Turner incense. *g* I haven't burned any yet because hubby has allergy issues with incense, but maybe I'll light some Saturday when he's gone. I did sniff it though. Mmmm, fruity! ;)

Gah, seriously. All around my apartment, globs and globs of cat hair everywhere. So, so gross, but vacuuming doesn't really help because they just reappear the next day (plus, vacuuming in heat just makes me hotter, and I do not mean sexy).

I saw Pirates Monopoly in my local comic book store the other day and nearly bought it until [livejournal.com profile] emilyisevil reminded me that I already own LotR Monopoly. Killjoy. ;)

Well, yes, I have that one too. And Star Wars Monopoly. Hey, I said I was a geek. *g*

And I agreed about vacuuming in heat. Drenched in sweat is not a good look on me. :P

It's so humid here (off the coast of the Atlantic in Southeast VA) that I swam to work this morning.

*fans*

*fans you*

Ugh.

Gads, I can't imagine it being this hot *and* humid. I had trouble with the heat and humidity the one time I was in Tampa in October.

Am not far from there here in DC, and yeah, it SUCKS. Today's a cool day, though. ONly 91 and 50% humidity. I can't imagine how hot it is out there in Nevada.

The weatherman this morning was talking about how we were getting a little respite - ONLY 98, instead of in the 100's. Like that little 2 degrees is gonna make a huge difference. :P But at least the humidity's only been in the 20's, except for when it rains. The heat is one thing, but I can't take really high humidity with the heat. I'd sorta like to feel like I actually toweled off after a shower. :P

*hugs*

Pirates "Monopoly" and "Will Turner incense" . . . I had no idea!

Yes we've had the heat here too, but nothing to cause fires (or cat fur storms, either that I know of!)

I know what you mean about "saps my ambiton" - I think the heat's even sapped my computer's will to live. It's so slooooow today.

One good point - the boss bought us all ice-cream today!!!

I'd seen the monopoly game online, but I had no idea about the incense until Loyal gave it to me. I'm such a media tie-in geek, I swear. :P Put Will Turner's face on it, let me pretend to be in that world for a little while, and I'm a happy camper. ;)

the boss bought us all ice-cream today!!!

Yay! That's a very nice boss. :D

Nowhere near as hot here, but I'm still uncomfortable. :P 82 degrees, which is four to six degrees cooler than it's been, and 50% humidity. And that's here in the computer room; I have no idea what the numbers are outside. And I'm not going to check, either. [wry smile]

And the Will Turner incense is fruity?!?! [giggling facepalm] OK, that's just funny! :D

Our humidity's only been around 20%, although I hear thunder through the open window, so I suspect it's going to be a little higher soon.

And the Will Turner incense is fruity?!?!

To me, anyway, it smells like a mixture of tropical fruit and flowers. Not at all manly or musky. Kinda funny. *g*

You have my total sympathy - I don't do well in the heat either. It's so hard to be productive! A cool coffeehouse with the computer sounds good.

And I'm glad to hear your cats are shedding to - well not reall - I thought mine were diseased or something. "Yo guys, you already did your summer molt. Now stop it!" *sigh*

I'd hug you, but it's too hot!

I thought mine were diseased or something.

I was worried about that, but they're all doing it. Poor babies, all they want to do is sprawl out flat on the floor. I'm thinking of trimming the fur on my fuzziest cat. I've already trimmed it once this year, but it's grown out again and he looks totally miserable. Only he hates having scissors or clippers anywhere near him. It's a two-person job, and hubby has to wear thick leather gloves while I do the trimming. This kitty is a very strong cat.

Boo Boo climbed down off the soft bed this morning and positively sprawled out flat on the floor he was so hot.

Boo tends to be a bad groomer - he's a boy - so he winds up with the rump clumps. He hates it when I comb him, so I try to cut them out and you would think I was murdering him! OMG. So what's up with the scissor response? Is this innate? How? He's not quite leather glove bad, but then I've never tried clipping all of him.

You might ask your vet, but I've read that their fur insulates them from both heat and cold. Hmmm...

I don't shave all his fur, just trim the longest stuff and cut out the knots (yes, he's a boy too, and a horrible groomer). He can't stand being combed either. And he's very alpha -- he was a stray -- so if he doesn't like something, he's not shy about letting us know. Hence the leather gloves. :P

Damn global warming. I'm convinced this heat wave is related. It sucks here too.

(Our power bill for June-July was $568 (!!!) due I'm sure to the amount that our air-conditioner has been running.)

From: [identity profile] jasmineskie.livejournal.com
We're lucky. Our power bill is averaged out over the year into equal payments, so we don't get stuck with huge monthly bills in the hottest summer months or coldest winter months.

And *hugs* -- I know it's miserable where you are too.

It's not fun. I hope things are better where you are. *hugs* I remember going to Monterey one year in August (quite a few years ago). It was sweltering here. I had to buy a sweatshirt in Monterey because I was freezing.

We're lucky, the marine layer is keeping us from being roasted like you. Low 80s, with a bit of a breeze, is hot for us (no AC) but tolerable.

It's usually a big business in SF, selling sweatshirts to the tourists!

That's what I like about the Oregon coast. The marine layer keeps it cool there, even when it's roasting inland. The warmest it's ever been while I've been there, even in the middle of the summer, was low 80's, which everyone who lived there thought was a heat wave and I thought was just marvelous. :)

LOL! I don't doubt it.
