Friday stuff
Jul. 7th, 2006 09:35 amPOTC2 day! I'll be going to see it this afternoon with
loyaldreamer, who is back from Seattle. *hugs Loyal* The movie got a glowing review from Gene can'tspellhislastname on The Today Show this morning, and everyone on my flist who's already seen it seems to love it as well. So yay! Movie afternoon. :D
I've been listening to the score for POTC2. I bought it at Best Buy, so it has three extra tracks instead of the one extra track I saw on the CD in another store. Quite frankly, I could do without the extra tracks. They're all remixes of He's A Pirate. I'd rather just listen to the score music from the new movie, so I think I'll be zapping the extra tracks off my iPod.
In other news, I've been invited to submit a short story to a sexy drink themed erotica anthology. Good news, yes. Except... I don't drink much, so I'm rubbish at knowing sexy drink names. Anyone on my flist have any suggestions? I have to include the recipe for the drink along with the story (seriously), so probably nothing that anyone claims to own the copyright for.
ETA: I'm not fond of the way LJ displays my friends list these days. Although it's interesting to see who's never posted, it makes it almost impossible to actually find a friend this way. :/

Date: 2006-07-07 04:59 pm (UTC)You should be able to see all your friends listed on the Edit Friends page I think. At least it wouldn't make much sense for LJ to cut those off at 500 too.

Date: 2006-07-08 03:32 am (UTC)I just checked the FAQ entry for that and looked at your userinfo... if you're using your userinfo to check up on mutual friends (and since your friends of list is, that one should be too), then you can activate that list to show and have all your mutual friends listed on your userinfo.

Date: 2006-07-08 03:29 am (UTC)On copyright, I'm guessing they don't want us taking anything out of a printed book that's unique to that book. Like if Martha Stewart or that new girl who's all the rage on the cooking channels had recipes for drinks that were unique to them. Anything online though I think would be fair game.
Thanks for the ideas. :) I've never heard of any of them. Cocksucking Cowboy might be kinda fun. I'm hoping a unique drink name will spur an idea.

Ah yes, if there is one thing I know it is....drinks? Lord.

What do you mean, if I may ask? I just went and looked at your flist through your interface, and I don't see any difference; this sounds both intriguing and disturbing. Are you using the beta navigation scheme?

If that doesn't work for you, what it looks like to me is a page full of my friends names along with their default icons, arranged by order of last posted and how long ago they posted. This is not helpful when I'm trying to find a name alphabetically. :/
Sure, I can look up my friends alphabetically if I go into the edit friends page, but it's more steps to get there and it's kind of ridiculous. This only happened once my flist went over 500.
So, that's what's up with my flist display. :)

There's also a Long Hard Screw Against the Wall (which I have no idea what's in it)

Date: 2006-07-10 09:54 am (UTC)I saw Pirates last night (well, Saturday night -- I still think of it as Sunday 'cause I haven't been to bed yet) and it was very cool. Not screamingly fantastic, but very cool. Most of the critics obviously got shuffled into the wrong theater when they went to see it. [wry smile]

Date: 2006-07-10 04:21 pm (UTC)I saw it again yesterday, and I picked up a lot more than I did the first time. Sure, there's lots of over the top action and screaming special effects, but there's a pretty good story going on too.

Date: 2006-07-11 12:58 am (UTC)Rotten Tomatoes' Pirates Page
Rotten Tomatoes is a compilation site with lots of movie reviews (all the reviews they can scrape up, I imagine) and they assign an overall rating to movies based on what all the critics whose reviews they've gathered say. Note that they still have Pirates rated as "Rotten" despite the better than fifty percent positive; they require at least sixty percent positive reviews to rate a movie as "fresh." And the "Cream of the Crop," which is the major critics, only give it a forty-three percent positive rating.
It's funny, though -- people seem to either love it or hate it. There's not much in the middle.
