See that icon up there? That was me last night trying to write. ;) Although I did get a little writing in here and there between working late, running errands. Napping at the keyboard. And I think food was involved at some point, like at 11:30.

Thank you to everyone who responded to my dead computer post. *hugs* The tech guys called last night and said my computer was ready. The hard drive didn't die exactly -- they were able to get it to work by doing a system restore. Although they couldn't tell me why the hard drive diagnostic I tried to run wouldn't work at all, which is what made me think the hard drive had died so I didn't run the system restore myself with the gobs of restore CDs I made when I bought the thing. Good news is that they didn't charge me for doing the system restore. Bad news is that because I wouldn't pay $99 to have them attempt to save the data, it's all gone and the computer's back to what it looked like when I first bought it. So I'll be browsing around the iTunes info and programs you guys linked me to this weekend to see if I can dump my iTunes library on my computer from my iPod.

I sort of watched Lost last night. You know... I used to tape the shows. I actually have a few eps on my iPod. But this season? I quit taping the eps when it came back after the last break. Last night I missed the first twenty minutes or so, and you know what? I didn't care. The show has so lost me (no pun instended) as a viewer with all those eps devoted to The Others and the mysteries that never seem to end. Every once in a while, it might be nice to actually answer a question with a somewhat relevant answer that makes some kind of sense, instead of all just leading to more and more questions.

Or, you know... I could just be getting grumpy and less patient as I get older. Or something like that. ;)

*hugs* Glad your computer isn't as dead as you thought it was.

My boyfriend has installed some data recovery program on my Dad's computer to get back deleted data, which is working quite well. It's not a free program though (unless you... ahem, make it free), and he doesn't know the name right now, but I can get back at you tomorrow if you'd like to know.

Wow, that would be great, thank you! :D I'm not really going to have any time to do anything with the computer until Saturday anyway. I don't mind buying the program if you can point me in the right direction. *hugs* I wonder if it would still work on a restored system? I know data on a hard drive isn't really gone unless a specific program is run to wipe it more than just deleting it, but beyond that I'm pretty clueless.

I'll call my dad tomorrow and have my brother check for the name :)

We have formatted and installed everything completely from scratch on my Dad's computer; that's how his data got lost in the first place (because he *forgot* to tell anyone to save it), so I guess it should work on your computer too. For data to be truly lost, the hard drive needs to be wiped clean several times, as far as I know, and I doubt they did that with your computer.

The program is called easyRecovery professional. I checked on google, you'll find trial versions to download easy, which (according to one page) can restore zips and word files, and allow you to see, but not restore everything else that can be restored with the full version. Said full version is quite expensive, so I'd try first in any case and see if it would work... and then decide if and how to acquire the full version. ;)

The Muse, she is a mean bitch, no?

Pleased your computer seems to have survived.

I'm with you on LOST. I stopped watching the moment they killed Mr. Eko. You know, one day they'll do something REALLY radical and against the grain, like allow non-white characters to *survive* an action show...

Boy, are you right about that! I'm a rabid fan, but even I'm getting a bit fed up with all this new shit being thrown at us. And just when you think something's going to get answered, they add a new character, with all the flashbacks and such and suddenly, we're no closer to learning anything than we were to begin with! Arg!

Love you, though!

I feel the same about Lost. The only reason I'm sticking with it is because I don't watch anything else on Wednesdays and I feel like I've put up with three seasons, I might as well see if they go anywhere with it.

I'm totally with you on the "Lost" suckage.

I was a rabid fan in the first season - taped and re-watched every ep, discussed it online or with RL friends before, during, after, and between each episode, and generally loved and obsessed over every aspect of the show.

Season two, still going pretty good, but losing interest, and while I usually caught up afterwards, I didn't always mind when I missed an ep.

Season three, and it's like omg wtf are they smoking?
Where did all the awesome characters from s1 go, and why are all these boring backstories happening, and why is there a 25 week break between episodes?!?

You'd think I'd have learned my lesson from "Alias" - JJ Abrams is not to be trusted! - but noooo, I had to fall in love with "Lost" and get my little heart broken once again.

Fortunately, "Heroes" was there to take its place. :D

But see, if they started answering questions then eventually they'll have answered them all and the show'd be over and they'd all be out of a job. They have absolutely no incentive to let that happen, so.... [wry smile]

totally with you on lost. i have my husband give me a 30 second update on each ep since the break - that's it - and believe me, that's been enough.

I'm glad your computer isn't totally out for the count. And I'm with you on Lost. I gave up on it last season. Too many mysteries, too few answers, and I just didn't have faith that the writers actually have a plan that would tie everything together. And although I haven't watched this year, I'm annoyed that they seemed to move it away from being a true ensemble and sidelined 3/4 of the cast. Since I started watching for Dom there really doesn't see any reason to keep up with it.

I really went off Lost as well, I haven't watched any of this current season yet, I might save it for a very rainy day, but it's the whole endless mystery thing that turned me off and which I find myself getting into shows like Supernatural so much more, I mean besides the eye candy, the show offers mystery and answers and much like X-Files in it's heyday, the episodes are quite self contained.
